In September 2023, Gehl, Energy Foundation China, and the China Sustainable Transportation Center released this booklet as a guide to people-first urban renewal.
This booklet is an introduction to what urban retrofitting is, and why it is recommended as an approach to ensure that cities can stay as the engines of sustainable transformation in China. The booklet also shows how this approach can ensure that cities and continuing urbanization can deliver on China’s dual carbon goals for carbon peaking and neutrality, and on the life quality we need in the future.
